How often have you felt stuck or someone you are supporting says they feel stuck? I have heard it said to me many times and also felt it myself, at times.
What can being stuck feel like? It can lower your confidence and self-esteem, have a negative effect on your mental and physical health, affect your relationships, prevent progression, and ultimately affect your general happiness
Moving forward
With good coaching, you can become unstuck quite quickly. The magic is little steps. Sometimes wanting to make a change or move forward can feel scary and overwhelming. Here are a couple of simple tools/models that you can play with, depending on the movement wanted.
The GROW Model
G – Establish the GOAL, what do you want?
R – Examine the current REALITY, what is happening now?
O – Explore the OPTIONS, what could you do?
W – Establish the WILL, what will you do?
Creating a compelling future
This is a technique that builds motivation towards a medium term outcome, and assists in planning.
- Generate a motivating outcome – clarify the sensory evidence that will let you know you have achieved it, what will you see, hear, feel.
- Into the future – watch yourself achieving the final step
- Generate the plan – look back from the final step, make note of the key things that you have done to get to that final step
- Checking the plan – go back along the timeline pausing to ensure each step is sufficient to ensure you achieve your outcome, if unsure, make adjustments, know your outcome waits for you in your future
